The passmark for the pool selection on 15 February was again 100 points. This time around INZ changed it selection process slighly and selected EOIs which included a job-offer but also a limited number of EOIS without a job-offer. Joboffer. Main condition for EOIs withoiut a job was the fact that the applicant needs to have gathered work experience of at least 4 years in an Area of Absolute Skill Shortages.
Sounds familiar ? This is what we expected (see news below) and and it is quite pleasing to learn that immigration (again) went too far by excluding all EOIs without jobs and now has to rectify the situation.

The passmark for the EOI poll selection on 01 Februry was again at 100 points. Main condition however was an acceptable offer of skilled emloyment or current skilled emplyment in NZ. We had a total of six (6) EOIs in the pool. The goods news are that four out of those six EOIs were selected, simply because they included an acceptable job-offer. The two remaining ones were (as expected) not selected due to the missing job-offer. This confirms the recent December changes; until further notice only applicants holding a job-offer have a realistic chance to become selected and sunbsequesntly receive an invitation to apply for resdience.
The previously announced criteria for applicnast without a joboffer and point scores between 100 and 135 have been withheld so far. INZ will keep an eye on the next couple of selections and then make decision based on the number of selected EOIs and remaining visas for the current immigration year.
We expect that sooner rather than later the door will re-open for applicants without a job-offer, probably those with qualifications in short suplly.

Changes to Skilled Migrant Policy as of 21 December 2005:
The new passmark for Expressions of Interest (EOI's) from the pool is 140 points. This will now affect applicants whose EOI's were drawn from the pool prior to 21/12/2005 and cannot claim this passmark as follows:
1. Applicants who score 100-135 points and have a recognised NZ job offer/or are already in NZ skilled employment, will be considered according to the strength of their case and number of spaces available.
2. Applicants who score 100 to 135 and DO NOT have a NZ job offer/skilled employment, may still be selected if the applicant meets certain criteria and if spaces are still available. Those criteria have not been specified yet by the NZIS.
3. Unselected EOI's may now remain in pool for six months before they expire and have to be re-lodged.
4. The duration of the special open Work Visa offered to applicants that allows them to search for a NZ job offer to help secure permanent residence has been changed. Applicants have now a maximum of six months instead of previously 2 years to find a NZIS recognised job. If they do not succeed, they would have to leave the country.
5. Under the new policy, the following EOI's, even though selected from a prior pool, will NOT be invited to apply for residence unless the person expressing interest was in New Zealand on 21 December 2005:
a) EOI's selected but which, as of 21 December 2005, have not resulted in a formal Invitation to Apply for Residence, AND;
b) which did not include points for a NZ job or job offer, AND;
c) which claim only 100 or 105 points.
According to the NZIS, all applicants affected will be able to re-submit a subsequent EOI to the pool according to the newly introduced rules without having to pay an additional fee. This deadline will expire 21 June 2006. |

The NZIS has announced new medical and x-ray requirements as of 28 November 2005 as follows:
- Applicants who apply for a visa for over 12 months need to present a Medical and X-ray Certificate (previously: 24 months)
- New medical will cover extensive blood tests incl. HIV tests and are comparable to health requirements for immigration to Australia, Canada and USA
- Some applicants from so-called TB-risk countries have to provide a Temporary X-ray Certificate. |

The most recent selection from the pool was 100 points, we had 7 clients being selected this time and hope to receive invitations to apply for permanent residence very shortly. Based on previous successful selections, this takes about 4 - 6 weeks. We have also received invitations for clients who had not provided NZ job-offers with their EOI but still matched the passmark. This gives ground for hope. However we have also received inquiries from applicants who entered their EOI without the assistance of a consultant and calculated their points wrongly (in most cases too many points were claimed). This can backfire severely. So please make sure that either your points calculation is correct or you use the help of an immigration consultant. |
